The event

Citymesh celebrated its 20th anniversary with around 400 guests spread across seven branded zones in the round Wintercircus arena. When the moment came, guests scanned a QR code and their phones became live pixels in one synchronized light show - driven entirely from a single Stream Deck at the operator's table.

No app, no download - a guest scans the Lumicrowd QR card and is instantly part of the show.

The moment: 1 to 200 in three minutes

When the call came, the whole room scanned in almost at once: 50 phones live within 15 seconds, 100 within the minute, peaking at 200 phones connected simultaneously at 18:14 - and then a clean wind-down back to the networking floor. Every number below comes straight from our server logs.

Rock-solid under a sudden spike

Zero technical failures

0 errors, 0 crashes and 0 warnings across the entire window - a sudden surge from roughly 0 to 200 live devices in three minutes, absorbed flawlessly.

Clean sessions, no leaks

Every connection closed cleanly - no stuck or leaking sessions - and no server restart before, during or after the event.

No app, no hardware

Everything ran in the browser on the guests' own phones. The crowd already holds the display in their hands.

What the room saw

  • Everyone connected in calm teal - the room "coming online" together.
  • A full pie of light rotating zone by zone across the arena.
  • A per-phone sparkle as the finale - hundreds of phones twinkling at once.

The setup

The Lumicrowd operator setup: laptop dashboard, Stream Deck and a second screen

One operator, one Stream Deck - one key per moment. The live dashboard drove the show while a second screen invited passers-by to scan and learn more. Minimal footprint, full control.

Conclusion and what's next

Citymesh 20Y is our biggest scale validation yet - double our previous record - and a concrete, measured proof point that the platform absorbs a sudden mass of live phones without a hitch. The next step is confirming that same behaviour at even larger crowd sizes.
