Latest case study - 262 phones

Lumicrowd at House of Talents Spurs

At a House of Talents Spurs home game in the Lange Munte arena (Kortrijk), the crowd turned their own phones into one red-and-white light show for the player entrance - no app, no hardware. Our biggest scale yet, and the first on a live sports crowd.

The moment, live - the crowd turning red at the player entrance, driven from one Stream Deck.

The event

On matchday, the call went out on the scoreboard: scan the QR, pick your block and seat, and your phone becomes a live pixel in the show. No app, no download - just the browser the fans already had in their hands. The whole show was driven from a single Stream Deck at the operator's table.

The moment: a full hall in minutes

When the announcer made the call, the stands lit up fast: from near-zero to 262 phones connected simultaneously around the player entrance, then a clean wind-down as the match began. 335 fans joined in total across the window, at a 93% join success rate. Every number below comes straight from our server logs.

Rock-solid under a live crowd

2.28M

live frame-events delivered to phones, with 0 dropped.

24.5 ms

p95 join latency (p99 67.6 ms) - joining felt instant, even during the surge.

No app, no hardware in the crowd

Everything ran in the browser on the fans' own phones. The crowd already holds the display in their hands.

One operator, no light rig

No DMX, no console, no truss - the entire show ran from one laptop and one Stream Deck, with zero dedicated show hardware in the hall.

What the room saw

  • Everyone connected in solid red - the stands "coming online" in the home colours.
  • A fast, beat-driven build as the players came out.
  • A clean cut to black - "phones away" - right as the match tipped off.

The setup

The Lumicrowd Live Desk during the show: a laptop showing the live pixel grid in red, and a Stream Deck labelled per show moment

One operator, one Stream Deck - one key per moment (connect, build, entrance, lights-out). The live dashboard drove the whole show from the stands. Minimal footprint, full control.

Honest learnings

About 7% of join attempts hit a transient hiccup - mostly fans scanning a moment before the show was flipped live, or two people reaching for the same seat - and nearly all resolved on a second tap. It is the kind of real-world friction a live sports crowd throws at you, and it points straight at our next round of polish: an even smoother first-scan and smarter seat assignment under a sudden rush.

Conclusion and what's next

House of Talents Spurs is our biggest scale yet - 262 simultaneous phones, past our previous record - and the first proof that Lumicrowd holds up on a live sports crowd: a sudden surge, zero dropped frames and instant joins, all from one Stream Deck. In a packed house the effect only gets stronger - and that is exactly our next step: the same show at even larger crowd sizes.
